MAGMA MaxPort 64 to 512 Port Serial SBus Multiplexor Subsystems: TheMaxPort products are rack-mount subsystems featuring 64 to 512 high speed128,bps asynchronous serial ports all with full modem control. Theports can be used to connect to modems, terminals, printers/plotters orany other RS-232 device. The MaxPort subsystem requires only one SBusslot for each 512 ports (128 ports supported under SunOS(TM) 4.1+) andis designed to be located up to 200 feet from the computer. MaxPort isfully compatible with Sun Microsystem's(TM) SPARC(R) computers and allSPARC(R) International compliant computers. The connection from theSPARC computer to and between the MaxPort subsystems is a full speedSBus. The 100MByte per second SBus supports high aggregate throughputrates. Serial Port Hardware: The MaxPort subsystems are based on theCirrus Logic CD-1400 Serial/Parallel Asynchronous Communications Engine,a RISC I/O processor capable of controlling four serial ports. The CD-1400 has many advanced features which minimize CPU overhead, the mostimportant include: Each port's transmitter and receiver has it's own 12byte FIFO buffer which minimizes the number of interrupts the CPU mustservice. Flow control is handled automatically by the CD-1400, withoutintervention by the CPU. The driver is optimized to reduce CPUutilization: multiple service requests are handled in a single passthrough the driver. Packaging: The MaxPort is packaged in 64 portmodules which are available in a 19" rack-mount enclosure. The rack-mount enclosure is 5.25 inches high and has 64 RJ-45 connectors. A 128port subsystem consists of two 64 port modules. A 64 port subsystem canbe expanded by installing additional 64 port modules. The subsystemattaches to the computer via a single slot SBus board. The MaxPortsubsystem can be located up to 200 feet distant from the computer.Software: Drivers are supplied for SunOS(TM) 4.1+ and Solaris(R) 2.x.They are delivered on a 3.5" diskette and feature "plug and play"installation.
